Thanks for the Gettier paper. According to the "stability with respect
to learning truths" criterion that I mentioned to you, neither of
Gettier's examples of true belief would be considered knowledge,
because in each case there is a true statement that would make the belief
disappear if learned. The criterion is perhaps too strong if one
assumes reasoning ability, because it entails that a person who has
any false beliefs has no knowledge, since any of the beliefs of a person
with one false belief can be overthrown with a contradictory truth
and a %2reductio ad absurdum%1 argument. It may be salvagable if we
can compartment a persons belief structure, so that the correction
of errors in geography can't refute true beliefs in chemistry.
